Police Launch Witness Appeal Following Fatal Incident
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene following the collision. The male pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he later passed away.
West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit has now taken charge of the inquiry. Their focus has shifted to gathering independent evidence to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.
Detective's Plea to Public for Crucial Evidence
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the unit, has issued a direct appeal to the public for assistance. He emphasised the importance of witness accounts and any video evidence that may exist.
"We are determined to establish what happened," said DS Hughes. "This is a desperately sad time for the man's family, and our thoughts are with them. We would ask anyone who saw the collision, or who may have dashcam footage from around City Road and Sandon Road just after 1 pm on October 29, to please contact us."
How You Can Help the Investigation
Police are particularly keen to hear from motorists who were in the vicinity at the time, regardless of whether they believe they saw the actual moment of impact. Any footage, even from slightly before or after the incident, could provide vital context.
Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 101, quoting the log number 2381 of October 29.
