Teen Arrested After Car Crashes Into Tree in Billesley

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a car crashed into a tree near a Birmingham park, resulting in the closure of a busy road for several hours.

Incident Details

Emergency services responded to the scene near Swanshurst Park, off Yardley Wood Road in Billesley, on Saturday, May 30. The collision, described as a hit-and-run, prompted police to search the area, leading to the detention of the teenager.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision and driving without a licence. He was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries, according to West Midlands Police.

Road Closure

Yardley Wood Road was closed between Brook Lane and Swanshurst Lane from approximately 1pm until just before 5pm, causing significant disruption.

Police Appeal

West Midlands Police have launched an appeal for information. A spokesperson said: 'We were called to Yardley Wood Road, Birmingham, around 1pm following reports that a car crashed into a tree.'

'Officers attended and searched the area before detaining a 17-year-old boy. He was arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence and failing to stop at the scene of a collision. The boy was taken to hospital to be assessed for injuries.'
