Zero Banking App Ceases Trading: Customers Urged to Withdraw Funds Immediately

The Zero Sustainable Money App has officially ceased trading and will close all customer accounts, according to recent warnings. Zero Fintech Ltd stopped operations on 18 March 2026 and plans to keep its app accessible only until Tuesday 31 March 2026.

If you held an account with this provider, you should withdraw your deposits in full as soon as possible, advises Money Saving Expert (MSE), the financial advice site founded by BBC and ITV personality Martin Lewis.

What Is Closing?

The closure affects the entire Zero banking ecosystem, including:

  • Zero Debit Mastercard
  • Planet Safe Saver

This shutdown impacts all of Zero's app customers, which MSE reports currently number 21,500 registered users. Zero states it has contacted all customers with detailed instructions on the necessary steps to take.

Urgent Action Required

MSE emphasizes: "You should withdraw your funds as soon as possible – ideally no later than 31 March when the app is due to close."

Customers should have received an email with further guidance. Since these accounts were linked to and funded by existing UK current accounts, users can presumably withdraw their funds back to those accounts.

Company Statement

Zero's LinkedIn page was updated with a message explaining: "In March 2026, unable to raise more capital or find an acquiror, Zero Fintech Ltd has ceased trading."

The company offered a sustainable money app, current account, debit Mastercard, and savings account targeted at environmentally conscious consumers, featuring a GreenScore to help users understand and reduce their planetary impact.

Background and Vision

At its launch, Richard Theo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Zero, stated: "Our vision is a world where money is a force for the good of the planet, where money will never be used for anything that’s harming the planet, such as fossil fuel production or deforestation."

He added: "We’re aiming to bridge the gap between digital banking and effortless sustainability that simply isn’t available right now."

This closure marks the end of Zero's attempt to merge digital banking with environmental sustainability, leaving customers to secure their funds before the app's final shutdown.
