Councillor Richard MacRae Launches Running Fundraiser for Veterans' Mental Health

Councillor Richard MacRae has committed to dedicating all of his runs until the end of March to raising crucial funds for Combat Stress, the UK's leading organisation providing specialist mental health support for former service members. This initiative aims to assist veterans dealing with conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression, offering them hope and care in their recovery journeys.

Community Fun Run and Walk Scheduled for March 29

To culminate this heartfelt fundraising mission, a community fun run and walk will be held on Sunday, March 29, in Stapleford. The event is designed to be inclusive, encouraging all residents to join in and support this vital cause. Participants can look forward to a scenic route that loops through Stapleford and Sandiacre, including a picturesque stretch along the Erewash Canal.

The path will continue past Stanton Gate and Pit Lane before heading back towards the Sherwin Arms and returning to Derby Road, providing a pleasant and engaging experience for everyone involved.

Event Details and Participation Information

The event will both start and finish at Larry’s on Derby Road in Stapleford. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, walkers are invited to set off at 1:30pm, while runners will begin their journey at 2pm. A suggested donation of £5 is requested from all participants, with every penny going directly to Combat Stress to help veterans rebuild their lives after military service.

To add an element of friendly competition, a small trophy will be awarded to the first male and first female runners to cross the finish line. However, the primary focus of the day remains on getting active and uniting as a community for a fantastic cause.

Supporting Veterans Across the UK

Combat Stress plays a critical role in offering specialist mental health care to veterans nationwide. Every pound raised through this event ensures that more former service members receive the support and hope they deserve, addressing the often-overlooked challenges of mental health in the veteran community.

Whether you fancy a gentle stroll or a more energetic run, this event promises to be a rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
