A Sheffield University student will long remember leading forty of his fellow classmates on a unique five-kilometre dash through the city wearing just their underpants.
Underwear Run for Awareness
Law student Fin Goodger led the colourful group from the Goodwin Sports Centre to The Moor and back to raise vital awareness for testicular cancer. The eye-catching event was designed to get people talking and to promote the upcoming Wilder fight night taking place on June 7, 2026.
All the fun from the run supports the important work of The Oddballs Foundation, a charity dedicated to tackling testicular cancer in teenage boys and young men.
Fin's Background and Involvement
Fin is a keen sportsman who previously captained his school football team to victory in the Greater Manchester Cup before moving to South Yorkshire. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time playing for the Sheffield University football team this year, travelling across the North of England to compete.
The busy student also stepped into the boxing ring themselves in May 2025, raising £300 for the charity during a physically gruelling match that ended in a draw.
Love for Sheffield
Fin has completely fallen in love with his adopted city, praising its friendly people, beautiful green parks, and close proximity to the Peak District. The dedicated student plans to stay heavily involved with the charity events next year by moving into event management for the popular fight nights.
When he is not studying or fundraising, Fin also loves returning home to Altrincham to help out in his parents’ furniture and homeware shop, Rose and Grey.
Fin's Statement
Fin explained: “Our Ballsy5k event was designed to raise awareness of testicular cancer and publicise the city’s eighth Wilder fight night on 7th June while allowing students to make a further distinctive contribution to our adopted city. Us running around in brightly colour undies made people curious and intrigued. My student experience and that of many others has been enhanced by getting involved in Wilder Fight Night of which the underwear fun runs are part as we fundraise for The Oddballs Foundation. We aim to have fun, but the message is serious given that many teenage boys and young men face testicular cancer.”
He added: “I took part in the student boxing show in May 2025. I loved the training because it was physically gruelling and mentally taxing. My fight ended in a draw. I can confirm that thinking about being hit in the face is worse than the reality. In any case adrenalin kicks in and you just get on with it. Wearing 16oz gloves means that it’s hard to get hurt, but nonetheless, everyone who takes part proves that they’re not lacking in courage, guts even. I was also delighted to raise £300 for The Oddballs Foundation. I love Sheffield. What a great place to be a student. It’s hilly and the people friendly. Lots of greenery and generally clean and tidy. Beautiful parks and close to the Peak District. I plan to remain involved with Wilder and Oddballs. The events are student-led. This year I’m promoting fight night via social media. Next year, I hope to be in event management for fight nights and the awesome after-show parties. Meanwhile, I also like coming home to Altrincham and doing some work in my parents’ furniture and homeware shop, Rose and Grey on Atlantic Street.”
