Police smashed their way into a premises on Great Lister Street in Nechells, Birmingham, this morning, Tuesday, August 18, uncovering suspected drugs, illegal cigarettes, and a large amount of cash. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.
The raid was carried out by officers from the Birmingham Organised Crime and Gangs Team, acting on intelligence from the community as part of an ongoing investigation into drug supply in the city.
Details of the raid
According to West Midlands Police, a large amount of cash and a quantity of suspected Class-A drugs were seized during the operation. Officers also recovered suspected illegal cigarettes during further searches at the address.
The man arrested remains in police custody. The force has launched an investigation alongside Trading Standards, with support from Birmingham City Council.
Police statement
A force spokesperson said: "A man is in custody and we’ve recovered cash, drugs, and suspected illegal cigarettes, following a warrant in Nechells."
They added: "Officers from the Birmingham Organised Crime and Gangs Team attended an address on Great Lister Street earlier today, acting on intelligence from the community as part of an ongoing investigation into the supply of drugs in Birmingham."
Ongoing investigation
The spokesperson continued: "A large amount of cash and a quantity of suspected Class-A drugs were recovered. A man, 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in police custody."
They also noted: "Further searches also led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected illegal cigarettes, which have also been seized. Our enquiries are continuing and we're working with partner agencies including Birmingham City Council and Trading Standards."
The police emphasised their commitment to tackling organised crime, with the spokesperson stating: "Work is continuing across the West Midlands to remove drugs from the street, as we tackle organised crime head on."
