Sutton Four Oaks Tops the List
Sutton Four Oaks has the lowest violent crime rate in Birmingham, with 359 serious offences recorded in the year to April. That's roughly one incident per day, but the category includes a broad range of crimes—from murders and stabbings to assaults, domestic violence, and sexual offences. In comparison, areas like Lozells, East Handsworth, and Aston recorded over 2,300 offences in the same period.
Other safe neighbourhoods in the Sutton Coldfield area include Sutton New Hall (485 offences) and Sutton Vesey (488 offences). This may not come as a surprise, as leafy Sutton Coldfield is considered one of the poshest and most affluent parts of Birmingham.
Other Low-Crime Areas
Beyond Sutton Coldfield, the Jewellery Quarter and Hall Green also feature among Birmingham's safest areas. The Jewellery Quarter recorded 601 violent crimes, while Hall Green had 826. Other low-crime neighbourhoods include Nechells (822), Sutton Trinity (925), Oscott (955), Bournville (999), and Quinton (999).
According to the data, these areas experience far fewer serious incidents than the city's most troubled spots. The well-documented troubles in central Birmingham and inner-city districts are usually far from these doorsteps.

For residents in these low-crime areas, safety is not normally a consideration. They can count on a peaceful and undisturbed night's sleep, with police figures showing that serious crime is rare. The analysis highlights that while Birmingham has a longstanding reputation for crime, the experience varies greatly across the city.
"It's not something we worry about," said a resident of Sutton Four Oaks, according to local reports. "We feel safe here."
