Chilling Bodycam Footage Reveals Teen Killer's Deception

West Midlands Police has made public disturbing bodycam footage that captures 14-year-old Kian Moulton lying to officers immediately after he murdered 12-year-old Leo Ross. The video, released following a High Court ruling, shows Moulton's calm demeanor as he fabricates a story about discovering the victim.

The Fatal Attack and Immediate Aftermath

On January 21 of last year, Moulton stabbed Leo Ross in the stomach near a riverbank, discarded the knife in nearby bushes, and cycled away while bystanders and police attempted to save the fatally wounded boy. Shockingly, the teenage killer returned to the scene shortly afterward and positioned himself as a concerned witness.

In the footage, Moulton—dressed in a black jacket with his hood over a hat—looks directly at the officer and calmly explains he stumbled upon the scene around 3 p.m. while riding his bike. He claims he was heading to a mechanic shop and saw Leo lying on the ground, prompting him to alert a woman walking by to call emergency services.

Detailed Lies and Investigation

Moulton's fabricated account included specific details:

  • He stated he told a woman to contact police
  • He claimed he went to get help from other people
  • He insisted he didn't touch the victim to avoid being involved in the case
  • He pointed to Leo's body and repeated "that's all I know about it"

Despite his convincing performance, detectives launched a major investigation after Leo succumbed to his injuries later that day. Officers reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV and doorbell camera footage, which ultimately identified Moulton as the primary suspect.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

When arrested at his home, Moulton provided no comment during interviews and refused to explain his actions, though he did tell officers they wouldn't find the murder weapon. Following applications from multiple media organizations including Birmingham Live, the Daily Mail, and the BBC, High Court judge Mr Justice Choudhury lifted reporting restrictions.

On Tuesday, February 10, at Birmingham Crown Court, Moulton was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years. The release of the unedited bodycam footage—now showing Moulton's face for the first time—provides a stark visual record of the teenager's deception in the immediate aftermath of his horrific crime.
