Derbyshire Police have launched an appeal for help locating Robert Maxfield, a 48-year-old prisoner who absconded from HMP Sudbury and is believed to have links to Birmingham and Dudley.
Maxfield was originally jailed in 2011 for a number of offences, including causing death by dangerous driving. He had been serving part of his sentence at the open prison in Derbyshire when he left earlier today, September 21, 2026.
Police appeal for information
In a statement, Derbyshire Police said: "We are appealing for the public's help finding Robert Maxfield, who has absconded from HMP Sudbury."
"The 48-year-old, who has links to the Birmingham and Dudley areas, left the open prison earlier today. He was originally jailed in 2011 for a number of offences, including causing death by dangerous driving, and had been serving part of his sentence at HMP Sudbury."
Description of the fugitive
Maxfield is described as white, approximately 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build and with brown hair. Police have stressed that members of the public should not approach him.
Anyone who has seen Maxfield or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Derbyshire Constabulary quoting reference 513 of September 18. Reports can be made through the force's website crime reporting tools, via a private message to the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page, or by calling 101.
