Detectives have launched a manhunt after a man in his 60s was stabbed by a group of masked men in Alum Rock, Birmingham. The victim remains in hospital following the attack, which occurred on St Saviours Road at around 11.55pm on Tuesday, July 7.
Attack Details and Victim Condition
According to West Midlands Police, the victim was assaulted by several men described as Asian and wearing masks. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the attack, and the man was rushed to hospital. His current condition has not been disclosed, but he remains under medical care.
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Mahon, leading the investigation, stated: “We understand this is worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns over the coming days. There is currently nothing to suggest any connection with any other recent incidents in the area, but we are keeping an open mind about the motivation for what has happened. Our priority right now is identifying those responsible and bringing them into custody as quickly as possible.”
Community Reaction and Safety Concerns
The attack has left local residents deeply concerned. One person commented: “Even pensioners are not safe.” Others expressed frustration with the area, noting a recent unrelated incident where a 16-year-old was shot on nearby Bowyer Road a week earlier. A resident remarked: “Alum Rock. I’m surprised [it's] such a peaceful area...” while another added: “Alum rock no surprise there.” Some directed criticism at the government, with one person alleging: “Government does not care. [The] UK has one of [the] highest crime rates in Europe.”
