Mechanic sentenced for machine gun killing of gang member

A mechanic has been sentenced for his role in the killing of a 'Burger Bar Boy' gangster at his garage unit in Birmingham. Theo Bailey, 34, from Victoria Road, Handsworth, was found guilty of manslaughter following a trial in 2024 over the death of Gavin Parry, 31, who was shot dead by a machine gun at City Industrial Estate in Winson Green on April 13, 2021.

Details of the shooting

Moments before his death, Mr Parry was captured on CCTV running into a unit wearing a bulletproof vest and holding a Second World War-type STEN machine gun of his own. A trial heard he was killed before he got the chance to fire his weapon. At the time of his death, local sources revealed Mr Parry to be a prominent member of the notorious Burger Bar Boys gang, although this was not a feature of the prosecution case.

Earlier that afternoon, Mr Parry had been involved in a dispute with someone inside the unit, prompting him to leave and then return armed with a gun 30 minutes later at 5.19pm, when he was fatally shot. CCTV showed that around a dozen people were inside the garage at the time.

Bailey's role and sentencing

Bailey ran a family car repair business out of the premises, but it was not alleged that he was the gunman. He was found guilty of manslaughter at a trial in 2024. Following delays and subsequent trials over the incident, he was sentenced at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. The court heard that Bailey's actions contributed to the death, though the exact nature of his involvement was not detailed in the prosecution case.

The sentencing hearing concluded with Bailey receiving a prison term. The length of the sentence was not immediately disclosed, but the case highlights the ongoing issues of gang violence in Birmingham.
