Police probe rape near Birmingham shopping centre

Police have launched an investigation after a woman reported being raped near a Birmingham shopping centre.

Incident details

West Midlands Police said officers were called to a location near the Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham city centre at around 7pm on Sunday. The woman, who has not been named, reported that she was raped by a man she had just met.

Police response

Detectives are carrying out inquiries and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. The area was cordoned off while forensic examinations took place.

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon said: “We are treating this report extremely seriously. We have specialist officers supporting the victim and we are working to establish the full circumstances. We would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious to contact us.”
