Police in the Midlands were left astonished after discovering the top speed of an e-scooter being ridden by a 13-year-old boy. Staffordshire Police reported that the stand-up scooter had a maximum speed of 54 miles per hour, which officers described as a 'disaster waiting to happen'.
Crackdown on Illegal Vehicles
The incident occurred during a targeted operation against illegal and anti-social motorcycles, e-scooters, and bikes. The county's police force shared a photograph of two vehicles that were pulled over: an e-bike and a stand-up e-scooter. The stand-up scooter was being operated by a 13-year-old, and when officers examined its capabilities, they were stunned to find it could reach 54mph.
Police Response
The operation was conducted with support from the National Police Air Service (NPAS). The Staffs Road Harm Prevention Team posted details on social media, stating: 'As we continue to deal with illegal, anti-social motorcycles and E Scooters/Bikes, we worked with @NPAS Midlands. We seized and educated the riders of these vehicles. The rider of the stand on scooter, 13 yrs old, the machine had a top speed of 54mph = Disaster waiting to happen.'
Police emphasized the dangers of such high-speed e-scooters, especially when ridden by young individuals without proper training or safety equipment. The crackdown aims to reduce accidents and anti-social behavior linked to these vehicles.
