Explore the enchanting garden near Birmingham where magic is made not just by fairies. Usually reserved for those who need its tranquility most, Marie Curie West Midlands Hospice gardens will open to the public this month.
Secret Garden Revealed
Tucked away on Marsh Lane in Solihull, the garden features a fairy garden, courtyards, two large formal gardens, and a picturesque pond. This stunning space enriches the lives of patients, visitors, and staff at the hospice.
As part of the National Garden Scheme, the garden will open on Saturday, June 20, from 11am to 4pm. Visitors can enjoy plants for sale, a tombola, refreshments, and fairy-hunting activities for children.
Volunteer Efforts
A dedicated team of volunteers maintains the garden, ensuring it remains peaceful and colorful throughout the year. Head gardener Do Connolly explains: "The patient rooms at the hospice are all arranged around the gardens, giving easy access to both patients and their families. The gardens are such an important part of the hospice, providing a peaceful space for everyone to enjoy."
The partnership between Marie Curie and the National Garden Scheme has raised over £12 million for the charity. Entry costs £5 per adult, with children free. Tickets can be prebooked or purchased on the day.
Supporting End-of-Life Care
Community fundraiser Leela Doherty emphasizes: "Partnerships like this help us raise vital funds so Marie Curie can provide expert care for anyone with an illness they are likely to die from. Today, almost one in three people don't get the care and support they need at the end of life. Every penny raised is vital to improve end-of-life care."
