A music venue in the Midlands has implemented a strict ban on football shirts as the World Cup gets underway, citing safety concerns following previous incidents.
The Robin in Bilston Takes Action
The Robin, located on Mount Pleasant in Bilston, has announced that football shirts are strictly not permitted within the venue. The decision comes after similar measures were introduced by The Station in Sutton Coldfield last month, which updated its dress code to prohibit sportswear.
In a statement issued on social media, The Robin said: "As the World Cup starts today, we’d like to remind everyone that football shirts are strictly not permitted to be worn in the venue. This is stated on both our website and your ticket. If you come to a show wearing a football shirt, you will be refused entry."
The venue explained that the ban is a result of previous incidents involving football shirts, emphasizing that the safety of staff, customers, and audience members is of utmost importance. Despite the ban, The Robin expressed support for the England squad, adding: "We’d like to take the time to wish the lads in the England squad the best of luck from The Robin. And remember, it’s coming home."
Background and Context
This move follows a trend among Midlands venues to enforce stricter dress codes during major sporting events. Last month, The Station in Sutton Coldfield updated its policy to ban sportswear, including football shirts, after what it described as a 'dress code update'. The Robin's decision reinforces this approach, prioritizing a safe environment for all patrons.
The venue urges customers to check their tickets and website for full details before attending shows. The ban applies to all football shirts, regardless of the team, and will be enforced from the start of the World Cup.
