Strictly Come Dancing star George Clarke has swiftly secured a major new broadcasting role just days after competing in the glitzy 2025 final. The podcaster and content creator, who finished as a runner-up, will make his BBC Radio 1 debut on Christmas Day itself.
From the Ballroom to the Airwaves
The grand finale of Strictly Come Dancing 2025 aired on Saturday, December 20, featuring George Clarke, Love Island's Amber Davies, and former footballer Karen Carney. After three final performances, sports journalist Karen Carney made history by becoming the first footballer to lift the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
Despite not winning, 26-year-old George Clarke is not dwelling on the result. He has confirmed he will host a show on BBC Radio 1 this Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25. Fans of his podcast, The Useless Hotline, can tune in to hear him from 3pm.
A 'Crazy' Strictly Journey
Reflecting on his unexpected journey to the final during the live broadcast, George expressed his disbelief and gratitude. "I honestly can't believe I reached the final. Crazy!" he said.
"I entered the ballroom thinking I had two left feet and would be out by week two," George shared. "I never in a million years thought I would get this far. Dancing alongside [professional partner] Alexis each week... has been a total joy. It's been the experience of a lifetime."
A Poignant Finale for Iconic Hosts
This year's final was particularly significant as it marked the end of an era for hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. The pair were honoured with a special tribute segment featuring messages from celebrities, loved ones, and fans.
Tess expressed her thanks, saying, "Thank you so much all for your lovely words from the bottom of our hearts." Claudia added, "Thank you for the support that you've shown us over the years. It's really meant the world."
In a royal touch, judge Craig Revel Horwood read aloud a personal letter from Queen Camilla, thanking the duo for their dedication to the beloved series.
With his Radio 1 slot now confirmed, George Clarke's post-Strictly career is off to a flying start, ensuring his fans have a festive treat to enjoy after the glitter has settled.
