Hinckley Church Welcomes New Season of Lunchtime Concerts Starting in March
The new season of lunchtime concerts at St. Mary's Church in Hinckley town centre is set to commence in March, featuring two talented musicians from the East Midlands. Lyric tenor Tom Stanyard and accompanist Simon Lumby on piano will present a delightful concert of light classical music, including song cycles by beloved English composers.
Meet the Performers: Tom Stanyard and Simon Lumby
Tom Stanyard, a lyric tenor, earned his music degree from Keele University in 2012 and later achieved a Licentiate Diploma in Singing Performance from the Royal Schools of Music in 2018. He is currently studying with Alexandre Naoumenko at the prestigious Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Tom has performed solo roles in oratorios by Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Rossini, and has taken part in opera scenes by Puccini and Verdi. In addition to his singing, he is an accomplished organist and choral conductor.
Simon Lumby, a versatile musician, studied at the Royal Northern College of Music after being a junior student at the Royal Academy of Music. He is known as a conductor, tenor soloist, pianist, and organist. Simon has given organ recitals in numerous cathedrals across the UK and has been featured on both Classic FM and Radio 3, showcasing his broad musical expertise.
Concert Details and Programme
The concert, organised by SMARTS (St. Mary's Arts), will take place at St. Mary's Church in Hinckley on Wednesday, March 4. It starts at 1pm and will last just under an hour, making it a perfect midday cultural escape. The programme includes 'A Young Man's Exhortation' by Gerald Finzi and 'Songs of Travel' by Vaughan Williams, offering a rich selection of English classical music.
