Birmingham City Council has announced that a series of roads in the city centre may be closed, and tram services suspended or diverted, to celebrate Aston Villa's Europa League triumph. The council sent a notice to city centre businesses regarding potential temporary traffic management measures, including parking suspensions and roadblocks, for a parade following the final match.
Transport Disruptions
West Midlands Metro services are expected to be suspended between Edgbaston Village and Grand Central from 10:00 on Thursday until the end of service. City centre bus services will also operate on diversion. The council will provide further details via its official social media channels on Wednesday evening.
Planned Restrictions for Thursday, May 21
- Parking bays on the listed roads will be suspended from midnight until 22:00.
- Road closures will be implemented from approximately 10:00 and remain in place until 22:00, though roads may reopen earlier if conditions allow.
- Bus services within the city centre will operate on diversion.
- West Midlands Metro services will be suspended between Edgbaston Village and Grand Central from 10:00 until end of service.
- Access to some car parks and frontages on affected roads may be restricted.
Affected Roads
The following roads may be subject to parking suspensions and temporary closures: Branston Street, Hall Street, Warstone Lane, Frederick Street, Albion Street, Powell Street, Summer Hill Road, Sand Pits, Clement Street, and St Vincent Street.
