Inverness Airport in northern Scotland was suddenly closed this afternoon due to an ongoing incident, leaving passengers stranded without explanation. The closure lasted for approximately two hours, from just before 2pm until 4pm on June 14, 2026.
Airport Closure Announcement
In a statement released at around 1:51pm on X, Inverness Airport wrote: "Inverness Airport is closed until approximately 4pm due to an ongoing incident. We advise passengers to contact their airline for the latest flight updates before travelling." The same message was shared by Highlands & Islands Airports, which manages the airport.
Flight Delays and Reopening
Flight times on the airport's website showed all arrivals delayed from 2pm to 5:15pm, while departures saw delays until 5:55pm. A spokesperson for Inverness Airport said there was no further information to share regarding the incident at that time. By 4:30pm, the airport confirmed it had reopened, but offered no explanation for the closure. A Facebook post stated: "Inverness Airport is now open again after the earlier incident and flights are operating. Thank you to passengers for their patience while the incident was ongoing."
