OVO Energy has officially entered the home air conditioning market, becoming one of the first major UK energy suppliers to offer professional-grade cooling alongside solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps. The launch comes as the UK faces a severe heatwave, with temperatures potentially reaching 38°C and breaking June records.
One-Stop Shop for Home Energy
Through its OVO Solar & Heating division, the company now provides a complete home energy system design, installation, and management service. Customers can have solar panels, batteries, heat pumps, and air conditioning all handled by a single provider, regardless of their current energy supplier. This integrated approach aims to maximize efficiency and shorten payback periods.
Year-Round Comfort with Reverse-Cycle Technology
The new air conditioning systems use reverse-cycle technology, allowing them to both cool and heat homes, offering a reliable solution throughout the year. Ed Janvrin, Director of OVO Solar & Heating, stated: “As extreme heatwaves become a reality for UK households, home air conditioning is becoming more desirable for many. We are proud to be helping households get through the seasons more comfortably with OVO Solar & Heating’s new air conditioning system offering, which uses reverse-cycle technology to both cool and heat homes, providing a reliable, year-round comfort solution.”
Record-Breaking Heatwave
The June temperature record for the UK could be broken for the second consecutive day, with forecasts predicting highs of 37-38°C on Thursday. Central southern England, the Midlands, and parts of Wales are expected to see the hottest conditions, potentially surpassing the record set in Gosport on Wednesday. The Met Office has issued red and amber extreme heat warnings, and chief scientist Professor Stephen Belcher noted that human-induced climate change has made such events “more likely and more intense.”
Wider Implications for Households
As heatwaves become more frequent, demand for home cooling is rising. OVO's move positions it as a key player in the growing market for integrated home energy solutions, potentially prompting other suppliers to follow suit. The company serves households across Birmingham and the UK, emphasizing that any household can enquire and install through OVO Solar & Heating, irrespective of their energy supplier.
