Birmingham City Council has warned of potential road closures and tram suspensions in the city centre on Thursday, May 21, ahead of a 'major event'. The exact nature of the event has not been disclosed.
Details of Traffic Management Measures
A notice has been emailed to city centre businesses informing them of 'potential temporary traffic management measures that may be required', including parking suspensions and road blocks. The council stated that further details will be communicated via its official social media channels on Wednesday evening.
Expected Restrictions on Thursday, May 21
If the arrangements proceed, the following temporary restrictions are expected to apply:
- Parking bays on the roads listed below will be suspended from midnight until 10:00 pm.
- Road closures will be implemented from approximately 10:00 am and are expected to remain in place until around 10:00 pm, though roads may reopen earlier if conditions allow.
- Bus services within the city centre are expected to operate on diversion during these times.
- West Midlands Metro services are expected to be suspended between Edgbaston Village and Grand Central from 10:00 am until the end of service.
- Access to some car parks and frontages located on or accessed via the affected roads may be restricted during the operational period.
