Caerphilly Dance School Secures Coveted British Championship Title
A talented team of young dancers from the Loren James Dance Company, all under the age of 14, has been crowned British Champions at the prestigious British Open Junior Dance Championships held in Blackpool. The Caerphilly-based school achieved this remarkable victory with their powerful and emotionally charged routine titled 'Lest We Forget', which serves as a heartfelt tribute to veterans and fallen soldiers, honouring the immense sacrifices made to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
Exceptional Performance and Emotional Depth
The performance received outstanding feedback from both judges and audiences, being recognised not only for its technical excellence but also for its profound emotional depth. It was particularly moving to witness such a young group convey themes of remembrance and respect with such maturity and poise, marking an incredibly proud achievement for both the dedicated dancers and the wider Caerphilly community.
A Journey of Dedication and Perseverance
The journey towards this championship began in May 2025 with competitive auditions. The successful dancers commenced their intensive training in June, committing to 1.5 hours of weekly practice, with additional sessions scheduled as competitions approached. The season opened in March at the Formation World Cup in Stoke-on-Trent, where the team delivered a strong performance but placed second, earning the title of vice-champions.
Determined to improve upon that result and claim the most coveted prize in dance, the team and their trainers intensified their efforts during the Easter half-term, significantly increasing training sessions to up to five hours. This sharpened focus and tireless work ethic proved crucial, ultimately leading the team to be crowned British Champions in Blackpool, an event widely considered the 'holy grail' of the dancing world.
Overcoming Significant Challenges
The victory was made even more impressive by the substantial challenges the team faced in the final weeks leading up to the championships:
- Last-minute changes: The team had to replace a member just three weeks before the championships. Amber Macintyre stepped in, learning and perfecting the complex routine in record time.
- Dedication to the craft: Millie Tevfik demonstrated incredible commitment, making a seven-hour round trip from Kent every single week to train with the team.
- Travel chaos: Dancers Charlotte Regan and Megan Aldworth were stranded in California during an Easter school trip after their flight home was unexpectedly cancelled. Training continued in their absence via video updates to ensure they stayed perfectly synchronised. They arrived home just one day before the team travelled to Blackpool.
A Decade-Long Dream Realised
For many members of this year's under-14 team, the journey started at age nine when they made their first Blackpool final. They have remained a dedicated and cohesive unit, working tirelessly to earn the first-place finish they truly deserved. While the Loren James Dance Company has celebrated numerous successes in the ten years since its doors opened, a Blackpool win had previously eluded the school.
To finally secure the title after a full decade of competition was a monumental milestone moment; every dancer, trainer, parent, and supporter was absolutely over the moon with joy and pride. This win stands as a powerful testament to the resilience, talent, and unwavering spirit of these young performers, proving conclusively that hard work and heart truly pay off in the end.
