Paradise Garden, a beloved grassroots music venue on City Road in Cardiff, is fighting for survival as its current sub-lease expires. The 100-capacity creative hub has negotiated a new lease with the landlord but must cover immediate costs to secure it.
Venue's Impact on Local Community
Founders David Bull and Esther Taylor have nurtured Paradise Garden into a cornerstone of Cardiff's creative scene over the past three and a half years. The venue has hosted approximately 850 live gigs, DJ events, and community gatherings, with the vast majority free to attend. It serves as a sanctuary for first-time performers and houses Radio SUDD, a bilingual Welsh community radio station. From electronic open mic nights to jazz collectives, Paradise Garden amplifies underrepresented voices.
Fundraising Efforts Underway
To secure its future, the team has launched a crowdfunding campaign and a fundraising event. Supporters are urged to attend the fundraiser and bring friends to help keep Cardiff's independent music scene thriving. The event will feature a DJ showcase with performances by Lose Yourself to Dance, Space Lab, Chateausque, Pashion, Shake the Horse, and more.
