Speculation surrounding the future hosting lineup of Strictly Come Dancing has been firmly quashed by two of the show's rumoured frontrunners. Television and radio personality Amanda Holden and comedian Alan Carr have both publicly denied they are in contention to take over from current hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.
Rumours Squashed on Air
The rumours gained traction after a source suggested to The Sun that Holden was among ten stars awaiting a 'chemistry testing' session for the coveted presenting roles. However, Holden addressed the claims directly during her Heart Radio Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston on Monday, December 15.
"I want to say now that me and Alan are 100 per cent not doing Strictly," the 54-year-old stated emphatically. "We are so flattered to be in that mix... But, we are not doing it, we are both not doing it." She cited her commitments to Britain's Got Talent and Carr's booming career, notably boosted by his appearance on The Traitors, as key reasons.
Carr Echoes the Denial
Alan Carr separately confirmed the news in a conversation with the Daily Mail. "I know my name's been bandied about. It's nice to be in the running, but no one approached me," he said. Carr added that filling the shoes of the current hosts was a daunting prospect, noting that "everyone loves" the existing format.
The close friends, who work together on the BBC's Amanda & Alan's Job series, were seen as a natural pairing for the hosting gig. Their show, which sees them renovate properties across Europe, has been a hit for the broadcaster. The latest series, set in Greece, is scheduled to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on January 2.
What Happens Next for Strictly?
With Holden and Carr officially out of the running, the search for any potential future hosts of the flagship BBC entertainment show continues. The pair's unequivocal denials leave the field open, though no official changes to the presenting team have been announced by the corporation. For now, fans of the duo can catch them on their renovation adventures, while Strictly enthusiasts await any further developments regarding the show's long-term future.
